IT Security Architect


Job purpose

Our client’s Digital and Technology Services are focused on ensuring current and future investment in technology to maximise the opportunities to support them from a technological perspective. Bringing a new focus to understanding and supporting the business functions will be key in exploiting technology to deliver positive business outcomes. IT Security is a vital element ensuring (DTS) Services are delivered to ensure continuity of services and protection from attack in support of business operations. The Security Architect is responsible for developing the Security Architecture that forms the basis of all information and data development and delivery in support of their business objectives and requirements, ensuring alignment and adhering to the principles of simplification, sharing and re-use.


The IT Security Architect is responsible for:

  • Determining IT security requirements by evaluating business strategies and requirements; researching information security standards; conducting system security and vulnerability analyses and risk assessments; studying architecture / platforms; identifying integration issues and preparing cost estimates
  • Designing the IT Security Architecture that forms the basis of all information and data development and delivery in support of business objectives and requirements
  • Driving appropriate security change through the development of architectures so that they fit changing business requirements, mitigate risks and conform to the relevant security policies and balance information risk against the cost of countermeasures
  • Preparing security reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing data and trends
  • Providing input to the Information Security Certification and Accreditation processes
  • Strategic collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to promote and continue to develop the IT Security Strategy to exploit innovative products, services and solutions that deliver business benefit in the ever-changing Cyber Security environment
  • Documenting and addressing information security, information security architecture and security engineering requirements and translating technology and environmental conditions into security designs and processes
  • Ensuring acquired or developed systems / architectures are consistent with IT Security
  • Undertaking other duties and responsibilities as may be determined as reasonable for the role from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Be of graduate calibre with either a degree and/or relevant experience
  • Able to demonstrate experience in an architecture or security architecture role
  • Track record of leading and working within effective teams delivering architecture or security architecture that has been proven successful in meeting complex business requirements and in enabling standardisation, simplification, sharing and re-use
  • Accredited in a Security Architecture discipline, e.g., CREST Registered Technical Security Architect, BCS Information Assurance Practitioner or similar
  • Certificated in IT Security, e.g., CISSP or equivalent
  • Experience and proficiency in IT standards such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO27001, NIST, etc.
  • Understand project management methodologies such as Prince2 or Agile
  • Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development in IT Security


  • Experience of working within a large public sector organisation (Council / Local Authority / NHS / University, etc.) delivering hosted services to stakeholders
  • Experience of working with HM Government security frameworks
  • Advanced IT Security qualification, e.g., MSc in Cyber Security / Information Security
  • Experience of application development and testing
  • Professional or Chartered Membership of an appropriate professional body, e.g., BCS

  • Ability to work flexibly and travel to locations across the UK and Ireland
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to continuous improvement and able to motivate and inspire commitment in others to achieve highest standards possible
  • Professional, tenacious and results-driven with a confident approach
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in reports and influence and persuade across all levels of the organisation
